EXECUTIVE CORNER

After 43 incredible years, Mark Michelson will put down his AP Stylebook and Printing Impressions layouts and turn the page to a new chapter in his life.

When I started at North American Publishing Company in 1995, Mark was already an industry icon. He had a bigger Rolodex than anyone I knew and was able to call any industry executive and get them on the phone. The commercial printing industry alone had multiple magazines (GAM, American Printer, High Volume Printing, Quick Printing, Instant and Small Commercial Printer, The Blue Books, Cygnus Magazines, etc.) serving the same audience and it was extremely competitive. Mark was the primary reason that Printing Impressions succeeded against those other much bigger publishers with much bigger resources. He was the constant, steady, authoritative voice that printers respected and that OEMs and suppliers knew would be honest and fair. He never cut corners and always did it right.

For me, Mark is more than an icon. He’s a legend in this industry and I can’t thank him enough for being an exceptional colleague, family man, and above all, a friend. Everyone at the Alliance thanks you for being an incredible human being, teacher, and mentor. You’ve passed along so much knowledge and expertise to those coming behind you and they will all be better for having a mentor like you.

In the words of the late Harry Kalas: “Mark Michelson, You are the Man!” Enjoy retirement and please know if you have the itch to write, we’d be honored to find a place to publish it.

Best of Luck,

Dave and Ford

What is an Action Alert?

Learn how to advocate for the printing industry by checking out this new video, about to be released publicly, entitled “What Is an Action Alert?” The video was a collaboration created by Rahmere Griffin, lead video coordinator, Clement Baa-Adomako, video editor and motion graphic designer, Ashley Roberts, content director, Carly O’Neill, communications coordinator, and Steph Buka, government affairs coordinator. The video informs members and staff on how to make their voice heard through the Alliance’s easy-to-use action alert tool. The power of an action alert lies in the collective action of a large number of individuals. We encourage you to visit the Advocacy Center to learn how to influence public policy and shape decisions that impact the printing industry. Our united voice amplifies our message that print is indispensable!

Open Enrollment is Here

Happy September! You know what this means — our Extensis Benefits Open Enrollment. Open enrollment is the time of year when eligible employees may make a number of changes to certain benefits, such as enrolling in a new medical, dental, and/or vision plan, adding or deleting dependents, or cancelling a plan you no longer need/want. Over the next couple of weeks you will receive detailed information about the medical plans, dental plans, vision plans, and other employee benefits. Also, you will be invited to an open enrollment meeting presented by Extensis. Please note: Our current medical plans, dental plans, and vision plans will continue.

Please take the time to review the information you receive and attend the meeting, so you make the best decision for you and your family.

All changes will be effective on 11/1/24.

Please note: This information does not apply to our 401(k) plan. This plan is not administered by Extensis and initial enrollment in our 401(k) plan is individual to each employee, depending on your first day of employment.

During the open enrollment period, and at any time, do not hesitate to contact the Extensis Employee Solution Center by emailing employee@extensishr.com or by calling 877-773-8770. Representatives are available to assist Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET. Also, do not hesitate to contact your HR Team (Jeanne, Jen, and Kylie) at our new HR support email address — hrteam@printing.org.

Women in Print Alliance Media Blitz

Women in Print Alliance embarked on a whirlwind earned media tour in August following the launch of its new membership program. In addition to coverage from the Alliance media brands, Lisbeth Lyons Black hit the circuit to interview with six Alliance media partners to spread the word about the program’s new elevated benefits. In addition to US-based podcasts and printed pieces, Lisbeth hopped across the pond virtually to join Women in Signs & Graphics UK in a global discussion about women in the industry. Thank you to Amanda Kliegl for generating incredible earned media outreach.
